Eleanor Nancy Gow came into the world in

Sydney in March, 1964, but rose to fame 18 years

later as a 183 cm tall supermodel called Elle

Macpherson - nicknamed "The Body" - who has

parlayed her spectacular beauty into a successful

acting and business career. Macpherson's

original plan was to study pre-law at Sydney

University, but that stalled when she was signed

to a modelling agency and became a star through

her appearances in Elle magazine, where she

appeared in every issue for six consecutive years.

She made the cover of Sports Illustrated in

1994 ? and has gone on to a record five cover

appearances ? and turned to acting with a walkon

in the 1990 Woody Allen film Alice. In 1994

she made the Australian film Sirens, and has since

appeared in fi lms such as Jane Eyre, If Lucy Fell,

The Mirror Has Two Faces, Batman And Robin, The

Edge, the television mini-series A Girl Thing and

five episodes of the hit sitcom Friends.

She has also managed to fi t in a photo spread

in Playboy magazine, developed the Fashion

Cafe franchise with Claudia Schiffer and Naomi

Campbell, and produced her own very successful

line of lingerie, Elle Macpherson Intimates.
